Celebrating “CELEBRATIONS” with Parents

The on-going unit “CELEBRATIONS” in PP2 saw an overwhelming response from the parents volunteering for guest lectures. It was heartening to see them being active partners in their child’s learning. Their enthusiasm was amazing and each had a unique style of presentation.

I had a wonderful opportunity to interact with the cute little children of PP2A class. My son Mitansh had prepared a chart on Diwali Celebration and he felt so glad explaining about it to the whole class with me besides him. The whole class was very excited on seeing the chart and everybody was eager to know more about it. All the kids seem to be really enjoying the POI topic of "Celebrations" and there was festive atmosphere in the class with bright kids around who were so enthusiastic and prompt in answering whatever they were asked.

I visited OIS PP2E on Nov 30th as I volunteered to take part to give Lecture/Presentation on Celebrations. A few days before, the teacher called and suggested Games would be good as kids have had too many of lectures. I was happy personally as it made things easier and fun for me as well as being seen as a cool mom.

Spending an hour with the 20 plus kids was very satisfying. I started with introduction to "Star" stickers which the kids worked towards earning at the end of each game while obeying the game rules. I made them play "Who am I game". The teachers kick started by guessing the 1st "Who am I" riddle. Later the kids learnt how to draw an ‘Owl’ using 3 Shapes. From that we jumped to playing “Dot-to-Dot game” or “Tracing through numbers” game. Kids were excited to see how beautifully travelling through a bunch of numbers it turned into drawing Sea creatures and Dinosaurs.

My personal favourite was ending the session with book reading. This was a book that I have read the most number of times to my kids (Mommy’s little boy). While I read, it looked like I had hypnotized the kids into going to a world of imagination. This was the 2nd time I must have seen all the kids come to "Pin drop Silence" with their attention towards me. It was an hour well spent. Thanks to such opportunities in school that help us be part of our kid’s education process.

Mano & Spurti, Parents of Ishaan – PP2 –F

The current Unit topic for PP2s is “Celebrations”. They have covered what is celebration, different kinds of celebrations etc. We wanted to do something related to the topic for our son, Ishaan’s class. Ms. Ritu was kind enough to guide us on what could be done and also giving us a time slot. We thought we will talk about Ishaan’s celebrations, what have been the important events in his life so far and how we as a family celebrate…so we put together a small slide deck with pictures of Ishaan depicting important events and festivals etc. Ms. Ritu had told us not to inform Ishaan that we would be coming so it would be a surprise for him. When we walked into the class, Ishaan was surprised beyond words…he kept grinning all throughout. We talked to the class about how we celebrate different events. The class is amazing and was very participative. The kids told us how they celebrate certain events at their homes. They asked brilliant questions like why do we celebrate birthdays, why do we give gifts on birthdays, why do we celebrate Dussehra, Eid etc. It was fun interacting with them and we had an amazing time. Their energy and inquisitiveness was very infectious.

We are glad that we did this, because it was really amazing to note how little minds think and how much they already know (Kudos to Ms. Ritu)!! But above all, Ishaan even now tells us everyday how glad he was that we came to his class. Would like to thank Ms. Ritu once again for giving us the opportunity.
