Book is a Man’s best Friend

Books are a man’s best friends and our students are enjoying this pal to the fullest these days .As a part of our theme numerous stories are being read, shared and written by the young authors. During this amazing unit we got the pleasure to meet the renowned author Ms.Prachi Joshi Johar. Absolutely in contradiction of the general perception of an author being a very serious personality she turned out to be a jovial lady. Her fun filled, edifying session ended so quickly that we all wished she could stay longer. She not only filled the students with ideas to create an interesting story but also involved them to weave a story then and there. She begun with encouraging the students to come up with a word then  connecting the words and students couldn’t even realise when they become authors of a new ,never heard before story .It was such an marvelous session which inspired our kids and they came up with reflections like “I want to become an author.”

Grade V- Student Reflection on Elections

We had elections for the fifth graders in our school. One candidate from each class got nominated. They campaigned rigorously asking others to vote for their candidature. In the process each candidate made various promises to take care of us with interesting ideas (hope they keep them up). Each candidate was given certain symbol and number by the Election Commissioner (Grade V teacher). We had to vote for one best person who convinced us and whom we trusted the most. We would have voted again, but we were given a marking on our fingers so that we don't cheat. This program was extremely fastidious and felt like real Presidential elections except that we were ten year old's standing for elections in Oakridge International School. Who knows, some of us might actually contest for the real elections twenty years down the line.

CRICKET SKILLS

Cricket requires a variety of skills that are commonly used in a number of sports. Hand-eye coordination, throwing or catching a ball, balance and intense, long-term concentration are just a few. Through consistent practice and by applying these skills to the elements of cricket, the students see a dramatic improvement in their game. Students learnt the following skills under the guidance of their P.E teachers-
Batting Skills
According to "The Art and Science of Cricket," batting has five basic principles: "Watch the ball, keep your head still on release of the ball, judge length accurately, allow your hands to lead your body and feet into the correct position and select the correct shot."
Bowling Skills
Whether you're a fast bowler, medium-paced bowler who swings the ball in the air, or spin bowler who gets the ball to move dramatically off the pitch, bowling has a foundation of skills that each player must learn. Woolmer wrote that by focusing on "momentum, balance and timing" within the context of the run-up, the set-up, the unfold, the delivery and the follow through, bowlers will become consistent, accurate and, more importantly, take wickets.
Catching Skills
Catching requires five basic skills: Excellent reflexes to get the ball, good hand-eye coordination, anticipation and alertness to react to the ball quickly, and a still head to keep the technique together.

Other Fielding Skills

Picking the ball up quickly and efficiently and throwing the ball at the wickets are the other skills required to be a good fielder.
A quick pickup requires short steps as you approach the ball, bend your knees, place your strongest foot alongside the ball and pick it up with one hand.
Woolmer explains that "the ideal throw is the one used in baseball," where you draw the ball back over the shoulder "so it faces backward" before unwinding the arm and throwing it straight over the shoulder at the target.

PYP-EXHIBITION ASSEMBLY: THE GANGNAM STYLE!

Junior school had a great time during school assembly! Well, it was Flash Mob presentation of the PYP-Exhibition issues by the students of Grade-6 that cheered everyone. Starting with a prayer, thought for the day and choir on the theme ‘Peace’ students then jived to the popular Gangnam style remix. One after the other the students came up on the stage and presented their issues in the Flash Mob style with a message and slogan to support the cause. It was simply exhilarating to learn with entertainment. All the students in the assembly joined in the dance and the assembly got over with a happy, refreshing smile on everyone’s face.
