The Bodmas Bee Is Buzzing - Demystify The Numbers’ Game

Today's math activity helped me understand a great deal about BODMAS and what MYP is all about. We had our very first math activity today. It was a hexagon cut into about 24 triangles. Each side of a triangle had an equation relating to BODMAS. We had to fix all the triangles together to form the hexagon by connecting each side of a triangle to another that gives out the same answer. We have never done such a fun learning activity before. This has been a very interesting approach to math. It was great and felt amazing to enjoy math once and for.

We the Class of 7th grade, MYP, have recently started the topics BODMAS and BIDMAS. To enhance our learning, we did a fun triangle activity to make finding answers interesting, and put collaboration into action. As a student in MYP, I really enjoyed doing all the math with my classmates in an interactive and collaborative way, helping me to know my friends better and encouraging me to practice more mental math. Doing questions in different ways, making learning fun is what makes MYP stand out and every student of any MYP class is more than proud to state that they learn through MYP!

Today, we the students of class 7H did an activity on the topic number systems. We were given 24 pieces of triangles with few questions and answers inside each piece. In the activity we had to match all the 24 pieces with the correct answers. Once we were done with solving the puzzle we found that the collage turned into a hexagon. It was a fun, entertaining, interesting and a mind boggling learning experience for us.

The MYP class 7H started the new unit BODMAS (Brackets Of Division, Multiplication, Addition and Subtraction) with a very fun, challenging and memorable activity.
On Thursday morning, our class teacher Farida ma’am brought in 5 bundles of triangle shaped pieces with numbers or expressions on all the 3 sides. We were all very curious to find out what she would ask us to do with them. Finally, she told us we would be starting BODMAS today, everyone was excited since BODMAS was one of our many favorite techniques to solve equations. After that, we were told that we could solve the puzzle in groups, and that got us even more excited since we could solve the BODMAS puzzle with our friends. Our instructions were to make sure that all of the sides that faced each other would mean solving an equation and that after the puzzle was solved, the shape of it would have to be a hexagon and with the instructions told, we started the puzzle.
It was a little confusing when we began the puzzle but, we found out that we would have to be organized to finish the puzzle quickly. Everyone was in a race to finish first with a correct end result. We were all so committed, that we refused to go to lunch but, we had to eventually. Quickly, we learned to start from the inner most hexagon and then to complete the outer hexagon and in no time we completed the puzzle. We were all so surprised that it had come to an end so quickly, as it was so exciting. I personally enjoyed this activity very much and I hope to do more of these activities in the future.
