CAS Trip for Viii B (CBSE)

On 7th of August, 2014, students of VIII B (CBSE) went for a CAS trip to Joy Land School. Few highlights and important learning outcome of the trip.
·        The activities planned for the trip included delivering Math and English lessons and developing the Library resources.
·        Students were divided into groups of 5 members each and each group was given one class to teach.
·        One group was allotted the work of setting up the library, with books donated by Oakridge.
·        The grades to be taught ranged from Grade V to VIII. They were asked to prepare the lessons to be taught, a day in advance. Textbooks with the lessons were also provided.
·        Each group spent about an hour in their respective classrooms, teaching the students and helping them clarify their doubts on various subjects.
·        Upon arrival found out that the strength of the classes were small (on an average each class had about 10-12 students), so divided the class into smaller groups of 1-2 students and paired them with one student from Oakridge so that they could provide one to one teaching. This strategy worked very well. Each one of them was engaged.
·        The staff and Principal of Joy Land were very helpful and co-operative.
·        More importantly the students of Joy Land were very disciplined and cordial.
Important learning outcomes – Group management skills, managing and organizing, undertake new challenges, plan and initiate new activities, collaboration skills.
Student Reflections:
On 7 August 2014, we, students of class 8b, went to Joy Land for our CAS trip. We taught them English, Math and other subjects. We also donated books to the library over there. I taught them an English poem "What is a player".  They understood quickly and asked doubts when they had trouble understanding. They were also very well behaved and eager to learn. I had a very good and enriching experience – Bhagavati
We went to "Joy Land School" for our CAS activity. It was 20 to 25 minute ride, we had snacks and we chatted a lot, on our way to and from the school. But, as soon as we entered the school, we were amused by their excitement to see us. It was stunning to see how interactive and fun-loving children they were. They showed me that, a person does not have to be rich or poor to be happy and a good being. My interaction with them had changed my perspective over a good and healthy life. I had a lot of fun and enjoyed a lot, talking to them and teaching them. I believe that we have more to learn from them, then they to learn from us. It was a memorable trip and I'm looking forward to see them again. – Prathik S.
On the 7th of August we, the students of 8B went to joy land school for an educational CAS trip. We had planned to teach students from 4th to 8th grade at the school a few English poems and arrange their vast library. We enjoyed a lot, interacting with them was a truly rewarding experience. We explained the poems to them , but they taught us so much too! Like how to take care of our belongings to good behavior. We started in the morning and came back before lunch, but these few hours were very exciting! We had a lot of fun and went back with a sense of satisfaction. – Dimple Parmar.
